ErasmoP2X (EP2X) is an integrated green molecules project in Saceruela (Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain), combining dedicated GW-scale renewable electricity generation, industrial scale water electrolysis, hydrogen compression, storage and transport (direct connection to the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone) and water intake infrastructure.
The project’s integrated 1.2 GW solar PV plant is central to its technical and financial feasibility, which provides the top-tier LCOE (levelised cost of electricity) required for cost-competitive industrial scale green hydrogen production of up to 80 kiloton per annum.
The project has started formal EIA / AAP permitting procedures and was officially designated as PCI 9.15.8 in Spring 2026, within the Hydrogen Interconnections in Western Europe priority corridor and forms part of Europe’s cross-border hydrogen network development goals.
Project maturity
EP2X has advanced maturity and is on track for COD (commercial operation date) at the end of the decade.

In excess of 3.000 hectares of land fully secured, environmental clearance obtained

New Saceruela substation included in draft Red Eléctrica Energy (REE) 2026-2030 planning published in October 2025

Water concession application advanced including clearing competition, compatibility and allegations phases

Formal EIA/AAP application procedure for integrated solar PV, electrolysis and water infrastructure commenced in April 2026

Project of Common Interest (PCI) status secured, included on second PCI list published in April 2026

>100% of planned hydrogen (H2) production covered by signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Heads of Terms (HoTs)

Close to Spanish H2 backbone (<1km) being developed by Enagás Infraestructuras

Extended e-methanol concept being developed combining green hydrogen with biogenic CO2

Major socio-economic impact by creation of >7,000 construction jobs and >600 operation jobs

Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding application submitted in September 2026
Hydrogen Distribution Network
The maps highlight the strategic location of the ErasmoP2X electrolyser in Puertollano (marked by the green star) and its direct integration into the broader Spanish and European hydrogen distribution network. The first map details its connection to the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone, combining infrastructure included in the European Commission’s Projects of Common Interest (PCI) list with newly submitted expansion routes, while the second map illustrates how this connects to the cross-border H2med corridor (via the CelZa and BarMar connections) to feed green hydrogen directly into major demand centers across France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany by 2032.
